Registered Nurses Required for Ireland
Our principal in Ireland, Medical Recruitment Specialist, has a requirement for registered nurses. Their initial requirements are for nurses with the following experience:
Theater nurses:
RGNs with care of the elderly experience or RPNs
RGNs with ICU/HDU experience
RGNs with medical/surgical experience
Nurses with experience of learning disability or intellectual disability.
Initial requirements to be submitted to FIL-HR
- Detailed resume in Microsoft Word format, the job description must be detailed. The resume should be on diskette or sent as an e mail attachment.
- Recent 2x2 picture
- Copy of IELTS examination result (if available)
- Theater nurses also need to complete an assessment form available from our office
Candidates Requirements:
Candidates need to be in good health, have a clear police record, be over 18, normally 3 years experience is required. Gender is not an issue, as the employer will consider both males and females for every role unless otherwise specified. Candidates need to have a very good level of English and their experience needs to be clinical rather than academic. Candidates should have hands on ward experience and should be able to work autonomously and as part of a team.
An Bord Altranais
Nurses wishing to work in Ireland require registration with the Irish Nursing Board (An Bord Altranais). The application process should take approximately 3 months. The main requirements for registration are;
- Graduated B.Sc in Nursing
- Hold a valid PRC License
- Hold an IELTS examination result with a minimum Band Score of 6.5. The individual scores must be no less than 6.0 in writing and speaking and no less than 5.5 in reading and listening.
Candidates will be required to undergo a period of adaptation or clinical placement. The minimum length of a clinical placement is 6 weeks, it can be up to 12 weeks. Employers usually pay for accommodation for the duration of the clinical placements and they are required to pay the Student Nurse salary which is Euro 22,012 per annum, Euro 1,834 per month (approximately Peso 123,000 based on a conversion rate of 67 Peso to the Euro).
Working Hours and Remuneration
Following the initial period of adaptation the salary scale for nurses would be as follows:

These salaries are annual and before tax. A nurse moves up a point on the scale for each year of experience gained in a recognized public/teaching hospital. The nurses will need original letters from each hospital on headed paper stating the duration of their employment and that it was full-time.
Some nurses will get about 1500 euro extra per year for working in certain locations e.g. theatre, ICU, HDU etc.
Candidates should be prepared for 12 hours shifts as well as night shifts. (obviously not together). The working week for a nurse is about 36 to 40 hours depending on the organization. A typical shift pattern for a nurse on an acute ward setting would be
week 1: 3 days of 12 hour shifts
week 2: 4 days of 12 hour shifts
week 3: 3 days of 12 hour shifts
week 4: 4 days of 12 hour shifts
week 5: 3 days of 12 hour shifts
week 6: 7 nights of 12 hour shifts
week 7: week off
Term of Contract
Normal contracts will be for 2 years and the working visa would be for the same duration. Contracts can be renewed after 2 years either with the existing or new employer.
Travel / Accommodation
The employer will normally pay for the flight and pay for the return flight at the end of the 2 year contract.
Accommodation is provided by the employer for the duration of the adaptation. The adaptation may not be completed in the same location as the hospital the candidate will be working. The hospitals will provide accommodation for the first few weeks for candidates following adaptation. Thereafter the hospital will normally give an accommodation allowance.
